Lithuania



Lithuanian cuisine consists of hearty foods to accommodate it mostly cool and damp climate.  Potatoes are used extensively along with barley rye and dairy products.  

Koldunai

Lithuanian meat dumplings.   Ground pork seasoned lightly with garlic and onion powder.  Then wrapped in a dumpling pastry and boiled.   Served with caramelized onions, bacon and sour cream.  I had on hand some Chinnese dumpling wrappers so used them instead of making a fresh pastry.  





Kugela

A national dish comprising of potatoes, bacon, onion and condensed milk.   Served with sour cream.  I personally felt that this dish needed some herbs or a spice addition like nutmeg to kick it up a notch.  I felt this was more of a side dish also rather then a main course.  Nonetheless though everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Varskes Spurgos

I was able to find Lithuanian curd cheese for these donuts.   These were not overly sweet and delicately flavoured.  These also had a nice spongey texture to them.
